We love being the start of so many "Big Adventures!"  Being in a small town means that we don't have as many local adopters as some big city shelters.  But it sure seems like we have as many strays!  So, we use social media and sites like Petfinder.com to link our pets up with adopters all over the US.  Each big adventure starts with a video chat meet-n-greet so the adopter can get a sense of the shelter pet's personality.  Then we work with the adopter to figure out the transportation - it can literally be planes, trains, and automobiles situation.  After a visit to the vet for a health check, we send the pet to their new home.  Gizmo's Big Adventure had his daddy flying all the way from New Jersey to meet the Athens Animal Rescue Team at DFW Airport.  We weren't sure who was happiest - Gizmo, His new daddy, or our team who made it all happen.
